Lake Taupo

We spent a gorgeous weekend at Lake Taupo (crater lake). In the distance, directly above the sailboat you can see snowy Mount Ruapehu, an active volcano. Mount Ngauruhoe, the cone next to it, is known as Mount Doom (for people who are into Lord of the Rings). Ruapehu is the largest active vulcano in New Zealand and has three major peaks: Tuharangi (2,797 m), Te Heuheu (2,755 m) and Paretetaitonga (2,751 m). Lake Taupo is noted for trout fishing. When I still lived in the Netherlands I often had trout with almond shavings. A very tasty dish! In New Zealand you can buy a lot of fish, but funny enough, no trout. Maybe I have to take up fishing …
